Join the PGC SOAC in 2025!
The NSF Polar Geospatial Center (PGC) is inviting nominations for its Science and Operations Advisory Committee (SOAC), which helps guide the strategic direction of the Center. The SOAC comprises eight members, with two open seats to be filled in 2025. The committee provides insights on scientific strategy, research directions, and the quality of the Center’s deliverables. PGC seeks to fill these two vacancies and enhance diversity by adding members representing perspectives within: 1) NSF Facilities, 2) Polar Operations/Logistics, and 3) NSF-funded Polar science. Candidates can be members of any community that are supported or impacted by PGC activities.
PGC encourages individuals to nominate themselves (thereby expressing a willingness to serve), or to nominate other researchers, Antarctic or Arctic community members, or other individuals who might bring unique perspectives on the Polar Geospatial Center. If you nominate others, we will contact them and share your nomination information to assess their willingness to be considered, and to enable them to review and provide additional information.
SOAC members help represent the Center and engage with the broader research community. They meet annually to deepen their understanding of relevant science and technology and participate in a mid-year virtual meeting. This is a non-employment position with a 3 year term that offers a unique opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the Polar Geospatial Center.
See our website for more details of the committee including the current membership composition and Terms of Reference
Deadline for nominations is 31 December 2024.
